Aishwarya Mehta: Thank you for having me. I studied architecture at the School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi. My interest in architecture started at a young age, inspired by my love for design and the built environment. During my studies, I developed a passion for sustainable and innovative design, which has guided my career path.
Interviewer: What attracted you to architecture specifically?
Aishwarya Mehta: Architecture allows me to combine creativity with technical skills to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces. The ability to shape the environment in a way that enhances people’s lives is incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, architecture’s interdisciplinary nature, involving art, science, and technology, keeps the work diverse and engaging.
Interviewer: Can you tell us about a project you’ve worked on that you’re particularly proud of?
Aishwarya Mehta: One project I’m particularly proud of is designing a community center that integrates sustainable design principles. We used locally sourced materials, implemented rainwater harvesting systems, and incorporated natural ventilation to minimize energy consumption. The project has been well-received by the community and serves as a model for sustainable architecture in the region.
Interviewer: That sounds impactful. What does a typical day look like for you as an architect?
Aishwarya Mehta: My day typically involves a mix of design work, meetings with clients and consultants, and site visits. I spend time sketching, creating digital models, and developing detailed plans. Collaboration is a big part of my job, so I often work with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the project progresses smoothly.
Interviewer: How do you stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in architecture?
Aishwarya Mehta: I follow architectural journals, attend industry conferences, and participate in workshops. I’m also part of professional organizations like the Indian Institute of Architects, which provides access to the latest research and best practices. Keeping up with advancements in building materials, technology, and sustainable design is crucial to my work.

Aishwarya Mehta: Focus on developing a strong foundation in design principles and technical skills. Gain as much practical experience as possible through internships and projects. Stay curious and open to learning from different disciplines. Most importantly, find your unique design voice and always strive to create spaces that are both functional and inspiring.

Aishwarya Mehta: The most rewarding aspect is seeing a project come to life from initial concept to completion and knowing that it positively impacts the lives of those who use the space.
