Interview with Cartoonist: Manisha Rawat

Interviewer: Welcome, Manisha! We’re excited to have you here. To start, can you tell us a little about your background and how you became a cartoonist?

Manisha Rawat: Thank you for having me! I’ve always loved drawing since I was a child. My interest in cartoons grew from watching animated shows and reading comic strips. I pursued a degree in Fine Arts, which gave me a solid foundation in various art forms. After college, I decided to follow my passion and became a professional cartoonist.

Interviewer: What or who has been your biggest inspiration in your career?

Manisha Rawat: My biggest inspirations are artists like R.K. Laxman and Bill Watterson. R.K. Laxman’s ability to capture social and political nuances in a single frame is remarkable. Bill Watterson’s “Calvin and Hobbes” has always been a source of joy and creativity for me. Their work inspired me to find my own voice and style in cartooning.

Interviewer: Can you walk us through your creative process? How do you come up with ideas for your cartoons?

Manisha Rawat: My creative process starts with observation. I pay close attention to everyday life, current events, and social trends. Once I have a concept in mind, I sketch rough drafts to explore different angles and compositions. After refining the sketch, I create the final drawing, adding details and colors as needed. Sometimes, the best ideas come spontaneously, and I always keep a sketchbook handy to jot them down.

Interviewer: What are some challenges you face as a cartoonist, and how do you overcome them?

Manisha Rawat: One of the biggest challenges is staying relevant and fresh in a fast-paced world. The pressure to produce consistently good content can be daunting. To overcome this, I try to stay informed about various topics and continuously experiment with my style. Taking breaks and seeking inspiration from different art forms also helps me recharge creatively.

Interviewer: How has the digital age affected your work and the field of cartooning in general?

Manisha Rawat: The digital age has significantly impacted cartooning. On the positive side, it has made it easier to share my work with a global audience through social media and digital platforms. It has also opened up new avenues like animation and digital illustration. However, it also means there’s more competition and the need to constantly innovate. Balancing traditional techniques with digital tools is essential for staying relevant.

Interviewer: What advice would you give to aspiring cartoonists who are just starting out?

Manisha Rawat: My advice would be to keep practicing and never stop learning. Study the work of established cartoonists, but also develop your unique style. Don’t be afraid of criticism; use it as a tool to improve. Stay curious and observant, as inspiration can come from the most unexpected places. Most importantly, enjoy the process and have fun with your art!

Interviewer: Lastly, what are you currently working on, and what can we expect from you in the near future?

Manisha Rawat: I’m currently working on a new series of cartoons that explore social issues with a humorous twist. I’m also experimenting with animated short films, which is an exciting new venture for me. You can expect to see more diverse content that combines traditional cartooning with modern digital techniques.

Interviewer: That sounds fantastic! We look forward to seeing your new work. Thank you for sharing your insights with us today, Manisha.

Manisha Rawat: Thank you! It was a pleasure talking with you.
